Stop-motion animation

Links that helped me during my research: WikipediaDifferent types of Animation

Stop-motion animation is used to describe animation created by physically manipulating real-world objects and photographing them one frame of film at a time to create the illusion of movement. There are many different types of stop-motion animation, usually named after the medium used to create the animation. Computer software is widely available to create this type of animation; however, traditional stop motion animation is usually less expensive and time-consuming to produce than current computer animation.

Why I decided to do stop-motion animation as my coursework project?  – It’s interesting for me to explore a more traditional way of animation which is still integrated to the modern cinematography. Also, I think this is the most suitable option in terms of equipment that will allow me to present a beautiful picture of my story.

In addition, I was interested in such movies as:

The Boxtrolls

The Little Prince

All of these movies are based on stop-motion animation that is moved into computer framed narrative which creates a beautiful effect. At the same time, they present a good example of branding where every part of merchandising and marketing work as a whole to create a corporate style.

That’s why, I’m really interested in doing clay animation as it looks unique, presents characters in an interesting way and allows the producer to create a beautiful image. Thought, I may combine it with paper-cut animation as it will give a slightly different effect.

I have also found Instagram page where an artist presents short types of stop-motion animation – There, she uses clay animation with the use of different objects and paper cuts. This type of animation really appeals to me and inspires to create my own animated project.
